A village in Iloilo City has been placed on lockdown after recording five confirmed cases of the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19).
Mayor Jerry Treñas issued on Wednesday, May 5, an executive order (EO) putting the entire barangay of Sto Niño Sur in Arevalo district under extreme enhanced community quarantine (EECQ).
“The EECQ shall be for an interim period of 72 hours beginning on May 6, 2020 at 12:01 a.m. until May 8, 2020 at 11:59 p.m.,” EO No. 070 stated.
The EO cited Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of Infectious Disease (IATF) Resolution No. 11, Series of 2020 which provides that a barangay-wide quarantine may be imposed where there are at least two positive cases of COVID19 belonging to different households in the same barangay.
According to the city government, the five infected-patients in Sto. Niño Sur belong to different households.
Under the EO, all residents of the barangay are strictly advised to:
◾Observe a strict stay at home order.
◾All forms of transportation, both private and public within the barangay, shall be absolutely restricted.
◾The foregoing restrictions shall not apply to persons who need immediate hospital care and management.
The implementation of the EECQ will also pave the way for sanition, contact tracing, and mandatory random testing on all high risk and medium risk contacts of COVID-19 patients in the village.
Erring residents, according to the EO, “will face the appropriate administrative and/or criminal charges.”
The total number of COVID-19 cases in the city is at 13, including four recoveries and one death.IMT
