The enhanced community quarantine (ECQ) status of Iloilo City will be downgraded to general community quarantine (GCQ) after April 30, according to Mayor Jerry Treñas.
“It is truly a welcome development that Iloilo City will be on GCQ effective May 1, 2020 following the announcement of [Presidential Spokesperson] Harry Roque just now,” Treñas said on Wednesday morning, April 29.
“This after they checked with the Department of Health the figures in the city that place it on the list of moderate or low risk to COVID-19 (coronavirus disease 2019),” he added.
GCQ is a form of quarantine with more relaxed measures compared to ECQ.
The city government has yet to issued guidelines for GCQ.
Treñas asked for the public’s continued cooperation. “Let us continue to be safe and to care for each other as we implement GCQ in Iloilo City.”
Meanwhile, the mayor said that the city’s lockdown exit plan is now being finalized.
“We look forward to bringing our city and our people to what we deem as a much better situation for all, after the burden brought about by the ECQ to most of us,” he stressed.
The city has been placed under ECQ since March 20 to contain the spread of COVID-19.
The number of COVID-19 cases in the city is currently at 8, with two recoveries and one death.IMT
