The Iloilo Provincial Government steps up its safety measures against dengue and rainy season by implementing a province-wide clean-up and clearing operation this June.
Governor Arthur Defensor Jr. recently signed Executive Order No. 271, highlighting the “Limpyo sa Hunyo 2022: Panglimyo Para sa Dengue Kag Baha” in the province.
The activity aims to control the surge of dengue cases as well as prevent the incidence of flooding.
“Together with convergence partners, the province will have an intensified implementation of the 5S Strategy against dengue namely search and destroy of mosquito breeding sites, securing self-protection, seeking early consultation, supporting fogging/spraying only in hotspot areas, and observance of safety and health protocols,” the Capitol press statement said.
Searching and destroying mosquito-breeding places every 4 p.m. daily dubbed as the “4 o’clock habit” shall be practiced.
Road clearing operation will also be intensified as a measure against flooding, pursuant to Department of the Interior and Local Government Memorandum Circular (MC) No. 2020-145.
This will pave way to the clearing of waterways such as rivers, canals, esteros, creeks, ponds; removal of illegal or unauthorized road obstructions along the road right-of-way; and removal of wastes and litters on roadsides and waterways.
Also, proper waste collection and disposal shall be observed which is anchored on the Ecological Solid Waste Management Act of 2000.
“Limpyo sa Hunyo 2022” is a component of Limpyo Iloilo, an umbrella cleanup and waste management program of the provincial government which involves the convergence of the public and private sectors.JBG/LML/PIA Iloilo/Capitol PR
