The province of Iloilo recorded the most number of fireworks-related injuries (FWRIs) in Western Visayas, data from Department of Health (DOH-6) showed.
From December 21 to 26, the province logged 7 injuries. Negros Occidental came in second with three, followed by Bacolod City with one.
The provinces of Antique, Aklan, Guimaras and Capiz, and Iloilo City have zero injuries linked to fireworks so far.
The total FWRIs in the region this 2022 was higher compared to seven injuries registered in the same period a year ago.
Eight of the victims this year belonged to the 11-20 age group, two from the 1-10 age group and 1 from the 41-50 age group.
To prevent injuries, DOH-6 advised the public to use alternatives to fireworks such as noise and light-producing devices like bells and tambourines.IMT
