Iloilo ranked fourth among the richest highly urbanized cities (HUCs) outside Metro Manila in terms of per capita gross domestic product (GDP).
The results of the Philippine Statistics Authority’s (PSA) Provincial Product Accounts (PPA) for 2022 showed that Iloilo City had a per capita GDP of P306,444.
According to Mayor Jerry Treñas, the city’s inclusion in the list of wealthiest HUCs was the result of “our hard work.”
“Let’s continue our journey of progress, fueled by determination, innovation, and a shared vision for a brighter tomorrow,” he said.
The top spot was clinched by Baguio City with a per capita GDP of P420,016; followed by Cagayan de Oro City with P343,936; and Lapu-Lapu City with P313,039.
Bataan ranked fifth with P297,930, followed by Cebu City with P293,426; Laguna with P287,280; Mandaue City with P274,376; Davao City with P258, 811; and Batanes with P297,930.
GDP is the total value of all goods and services produced yearly within a country. Per capita income is the average income earned per person, and it is measured by dividing GDP by a country’s total population.
PSA’s latest findings only cover 82 provinces and 17 highly urbanized cities in 16 pilot regions across the country.IMT
