Flights between Iloilo and Manila have been canceled due volcanic ash emmissions.
Taal Volcano in Batangas province erupted Sunday, Jan 12.
According to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs), Taal, the second most active volcano in the country, blasted steam, ash, and pebbles up to 9 miles or 15 kilometers into the sky.
This resulted in the cancelation of all flights to and from the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA).
The Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) said flights arriving and departing NAIA were suspended from 7:00 p.m. and 6:22 p.m., respectively, on Sunday.
In an advisory, the Manila International Airport Authority (MIAA) advised passengers to coordinate with their respective airlines for flight updates.
CAAP, in its revised statement, said flights would be halted “until further notice.”
Among those affected were the Iloilo-Manila and Manila-Iloilo flights.
Phivolcs raised Alert Level 4 over Taal Volcano at 7:30 p.m.
Alert Level 4 means a hazardous explosive eruption is possible within hours to days, the state seismology bureau said.IMT
