Palay (unhusked rice) production in the province of Iloilo declined by 18.5 percent in the second quarter of 2024, according to the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA-6).
From April to June this year, the palay harvest was estimated at 3,904 metric tons (MT), lower compared to 4,793 MT in the same period last year.
The province accounted for 12.1 percent of Western Visayas’ total palay production in the April -June period, which was estimated at 82,819 MT.
The top contributor was Negros Occidental (36.3 percent), followed by Capiz (32.9 percent), and Antique (14.7 percent).
Aklan ranked fifth with 3.5 percent shares to the regional output, followed by Guimaras with 0.6 percent.
The region’s palay production this year went down by 36.0 percent from 2023’s 129,476 MT.IMT
