The number of suicide cases in the province of Iloilo is on the rise.
From January to May this year, the Iloilo Police Provincial Office (IPPO), recorded 43 cases of suicide.
The number was higher compared to 41 cases in the same period last year, 37 in 2020, and 40 in 2019.
Majority or 37 of the latest figure were males and six were females.
According to Police Staff Master Sergeant Francisco Lindero Jr., IPPO spokesperson, most of the victims suffered depression.
In September last year, IPPO launched the “Pag-ulikid” Desk initiative in all police stations in the province to address the rising suicide cases.
Manned by personnel from the Women’s and Children Protection Desk (WCPD), the desks cater to those suffering from depression and anxiety.IMT
