Active cases of the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) in the province of Iloilo now stand at 252, the highest in Western Visayas.

The figure is based on the COVID-19 Case Bulletin issued by the Department of Health (DOH-6) on Thursday, Jan. 21.

Iloilo City came in second with 193 active cases, followed by Negros Occidental, 163; Bacolod City, 117; Aklan, 93; Capiz, 38; Antique, 20; and Guimaras, 7.

All in all, the region registered 883 active cases.

Active cases refer to patients still infected with SARS-CoV-2, the virus that causes COVID-19.

The total number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in the region reached 22,544 on Thursday after the DOH-6 reported an additional 108 new infections.

Iloilo province accounted for the majority of the new cases, 72. Seventeen were found in Iloilo City, 8 from Bacolod City, 6 from Capiz, and 5 from Aklan.

Of the total case count, 20, 967 have recovered and 688 have died.IMT
