The province of Iloilo on Saturday, June 5, recorded the highest single-day increase in fresh cases at 217 infections.
These additional cases brought the province’s total active case count to 1,827, data from the Provincial Health Office (PHO) showed.
Passi City accounted for the highest number of new cases at 23, all are considered indigenous or locally transmitted cases.
Leganes came in second with 18 new cases, followed by Sara, 16; Miagao and Oton, 14 each; Pavia, 12; Santa Barbara, 11; Cabatuan and Guimbal, 10 each; Igbaras, 8; and Maasin, 5.
Other towns that contributed to the new cases are Barotac Nuevo (4), Barotac Viejo (4), San Dionisio (4), Estancia (4), Calinog (3), Carles(3), San Miguel (3), Ajuy (3), San Rafael (3), Batad (2), San Enrique (1), Bingawan (1), Badiangan (1), Lambunao (1), Tubungan (1), Banate (1), Lemery (1), and Anilao (1).
Since the pandemic began in March last year, the province logged a total of 8,571 confirmed cases of COVID-19, of which 76 percent or 6,543 have recovered and 3 percent or 201 have died
“This surge of cases is serious and we need to act on it,” the PHO said.
“Keep yourself and your loved ones safe. Boost up your immune system, wear mask, wash hands and social distance. Discipline is key in this fight against COVID-19,” it told he public.IMT
