There is a shortage of more than 1,600 classrooms in public elementary and high schools in the province of Iloilo.

Schools Division of Iloilo Superintendent Dr. Ernesto Servillon Jr. said the existing classrooms in the province are not enough to accommodate students for school year (SY) 2023-2024.

The province is short of 1,652 classrooms, of which 449 are needed in the Fifth District, 385 in the Third District, 302 in the First District, 297 in the Second District, and 219 in the Fourth District.

Servillon said the Department of Education (DepEd) is continuously looking for ways to address the classroom shortage in the province.

“Interventions,” according to the schools division head, will be implemented to ensure that the problem will not affect their students’ learning.

SY 2023-2024 is set to open on Aug. 29.IMT
