Economic partnerships are being eyed between the provincial government of Iloilo and the United States of America to spur socio-economic gains in the countryside.
Gov. Arthur Defensor Jr. recently welcomed US Ambassador to the Philippines MaryKay Loss Carlson in her courtesy visit at the Iloilo Provincial Capitol to tackle economic prospects with the US, particularly, in the fields of Business Process Outsourcing, agriculture and service industry, and education.
“We are very thankful for the visit of Her Excellency here in Iloilo. We take this opportunity to further develop our exchanges with the United States,” Defensor said.
The governor also conveyed the development thrust of his administration, which emphasizes the creation of growth centers and addresses the basic economic fundamentals to attract more investments in the province.
Meanwhile, Ambassador Carlson said she is taking the chance to discuss many areas of cooperation between the United States and the people of Iloilo.
“We discussed with the governor any ways to attract more United States businesses here and ways that will promote our partnership and prosperity that will benefit both of our countries,” Carlson said in a press conference.
Carlson conveyed her profound gratitude to the warmth, respectfulness, and sense of joy of the Ilonggos.
She also acknowledged the governor for their interesting conversation and for letting her taste some agricultural produce from the province during their brief breakfast meeting.
Gov. Defensor, on the other hand, received a customized Timex watch from Ambassador Carlson bearing the US and the Philippine flags as a symbol of the timeless relations between the two countries. AAL/LMLE/PIA Iloilo/Capitol PR
