The province and city of Iloilo will not appeal to the national government to downgrade their modified enhanced community quarantine (MECQ) status.

The Inter-Agency Task Force (IATF) escalated the province’s quarantine classification from modified general community quarantine (MGCQ) to MECQ.

The new classification takes effect today, June 16, until the end of the month.

Governor Arthur Defensor, Jr. said the implementation of border control and the issuance of travel passes will remain in effect.

In the city, COVID Team spokesperson Jeck Conlu said non-essential establishments, except spas, massage parlors, and other similar businesses, will be allowed to resume their operations at 30 percent capacity.

Unlike the province, Iloilo City will lift its border policies and no longer require travel passes, according to Conlu.

The city has been placed under MECQ since May 23.IMT
