An Ilongga beauty stood out in an international pageant.
Alexie Mae Caimoso Brooks won the Miss Eco International 2025 title during the coronation night in in Alexandria, Egypt on Sunday, April 20 (Manila time).
The native of Leon, Iloilo bested 39 other candidates from across the globe, making her the third Filipina to take home the crown.
Brooks, who represented the Philippines, also won the Best in National Costume award and was named first runner-up in the talent competition, and took the 10th and sixth spots in the resort wear and eco wear competitions, respectively.
During the final question-and-answer portion of the pageant, Brooks was asked: “Imagine the world in 2050. What’s one thing you hope has changed and why?”
She answered: “If you want me to be realistic, climate change is impacting our world right now.
“And the only thing that we can do is to act towards it. Brothers and sisters, ladies and gentlemen, we have the same mother even if we came from different nations.
“And we in here are brothers and sisters right now. And our mother is asking for our help. So we must save our planet Earth and we must take care of our Mother Earth. Thank you so much.”
In a Facebook post after the coronation night, Brooks said: “PILIPINAS, WE MADE ITTTTT! MAHAL NA MAHAL KO KAYONG LAHAT.”
The beauty queen dedicated her victory to her late grandmother, Basilisa “Lola Basing” Caimoso.
“Lola, I made it!” she wrote.
Lola Basing, the woman who raised Brooks by selling vegetables at their hometown’s public market, died in September last year.IMT
