A caregiver from the town of Maasin, Iloilo was the fourth Filipino killed in the conflict between Israel and Palestinian militant group Hamas.

The death of Grace Prodigo-Cabrera was confirmed by the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) and the Philippine Embassy in Israel.

The 45-year-old overseas Filipino Worker (OFW) was earlier reported as missing after Hamas launched surprise attacks against Israel on October 7.

Cabrera, who worked  as a caregiver in the town of Kibbutz Be’eri, was identified by authorities through her fingerprints. Her family was informed of her death by OWWA on October 19.

She and her sister, Mary June Prodigo, who was also a caregiver were reportedly abducted by Hamas but the latter was able to escape and was eventually rescued by the Israel Defense Forces (IDF).

“No words can explain the pain I feel right now…I lost my sister/best friend..I thought babalik kapa..babalikan mo pa ako,” Prodigo said in a Facebook post.

“I’m not ready..madami pa sana tayong gustong gawin..madami ka pa gustong ituro saakin..Now nawala na lahat….all the happy memories mapapalitan na ng pain,” she added.

Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) Undersecretary Eduardo de Vega assured Cabrera’s family “of the government’s full support and assistance.”

In a press conference on October 20, Iloilo Governor Arthur Defensor Jr. also vowed assistance to the family.IMT
