Playing with a never-say-die spirit, National University Lady Bulldogs successfully bagged the Shakey’s Super League title at the expense of De La Salle University Lady Spikers, 25-23, 25-20, 25-20 at the Rizal Memorial Coliseum.
Showing the entire repertoire, Alyssa Solomon, who was named tournament MVP and Best Opposite Spiker, top-scored with 14 points for the Lady Bulldogs.
The winning team, which swept all their eight matches in the tournament struggled in the opening frame following a nip-and-tuck battle.
Bacolodnon Angel Canino carried the load for the Lady Spikers as she scored series of attacks to tie the match at 14 before eventually getting the advantage at 16-15 on a block by Mereophe Sharma.
Regaining its composure, the Lady Bulldogs banked on Ilongga Princess Robles for a 20-17 upper hand before Mhicaela Belen sealed the victory for NU.
To recall, the Lady Bulldogs defeated the Lady Spikers for the second time, as the former won the recent UAAP Season 84 women’s volleyball Finals against DLSU.
Aside from Solomon, Belen and Sheena Toring also received individual citations for NU as second Best Outside Spiker and second Best Middle Blocker, while Canino and Thea Gagate bagged the first Best Outside Spiker and first Best Middle Blocker, respectively.
Adamson University Lady Falcons, meanwhile, clinched the third place trophy with a 25-27, 25-20, 16-25, 25-22, 15-11 beating of University of Santo Tomas Golden Tigresses. Trisha Tubu led the way for the winning team with 19 points.IMT Sports
