Young paddlers from Iloilo pulled off a stunner after ruling the Palawan Pawnshop Mayor Jerry P. Treñas National Age Group-Dinagyang Leg Tennis Tournament at the La Paz Plaza tennis court.
Named Most Valuable Player (MVP), Maria Alexandra Onte won the gold medals in the 12-and-under and 14-and-under singles, and finishing as runner-up in the 16-and-under singles and 14-and-under-doubles.
Central Philippine University (CPU) star Althea Rose Martirez also snatched three championships in the 16-and-under girls’ singles, 18-and-under girls’ singles, and 18-and-under girls’ doubles.
John Rafael Santiago captured two championships in the 10-and-under unisex singles and 10-and-under unisex doubles, while his brother John Benedict finished as runner-up in the 16-and-under boys’ singles and 18-and-under boys’ doubles. Lourain Jallorina clinched a championship in the 10-and-under unisex doubles and also finished as runner-up in the 10-and-under unisex singles.
In addition, Dolores Hofilena ruled the 14-and-under girls’ doubles and runner-up in the 14-and-under singles, while Peebee Aguirre nailed the gold in 18-and-under doubles and the runner up in 18-and-under singles. Marben Alimarin Jr. settled for a runner-up finish in the 10-and-under unisex doubles, while Marben Alimarin also settled the same in the 14-and-under boys’ doubles.
The weeklong tennis tournament was part of the city’s celebration of the 2020 Dinagyang Festival in honor to Sr. Sto. Niño.IMT
