Mayor Jerry Treñas encouraged Ilonggos to pray for those who have been affected by the phreatic eruption of Taal Volcano in Batangas.
At least seven thousand residents, based on data from the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC), were evacuated from their homes due to volcanic ash emissions.
Treñas, during the flag-raising ceremony on Monday, Jan. 13, emphasized the power of prayer.
“Let us pray that the situation will not last long. Let us hope that not too many will get affected by this calamity,” he said.
Aside from Batangas, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said parts of Tagaytay, Laguna, Cavite, Bulacan, Rizal, Las Piñas, Marikina, Parañaque, Pasig, Quezon City, San Juan, Makati City, and Taguig City are also experiencing ashfall from the restive Taal Volcano.
“I have friends in Tagaytay and Metro Manila who are experiencing ashfall and tremors,” said Treñas.
Taal Volcano, the second most active volcano in the country, erupted Sunday afternoon, Jan. 12.
Phivolcs raised Alert Level 4 over the volcano Sunday night.
Alert Level 4 means a hazardous explosive eruption is possible within hours to days, the state seismology bureau said.IMT
