Iloilo City Mayor Jerry Treñas reminded Ilonggos to “be vigilant at all times” amid the spread of the new variants of the coronavirus.

“We could never know when or where COVID might hit us, or what kind of strain could infect us,” said Treñas.

The mayor told the city’s residents to observe the minimum health standards such as wearing of face masks and face shields, washing of hands, observing physical distancing, and avoiding crowded or enclosed places.

“Follow also strict quarantine procedures especially those who are coming from other places outside our city and Western Visayas,” Treñas added.

Last March, a city resident from abroad tested positive for the UK variant of the coronavirus that causes COVID-19, and was quarantined in Luzon before going home.

Based on data from the Department of Health (DOH-6), the city logged a total of 6,085 confirmed cases of COVID-19 as of Tuesday, April 27.

Of the number, 5,663 have recovered, 182 have died and 249 are considered active.IMT
