A magnitude 4.7 earthquake was felt in Iloilo City and several areas in the Western Visayas region on Monday evening, May 4.
The city registered an Intensity III and an Instrumental Intensity I.
The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) said the epicenter of the quake was located 37 kilometers (km) west of Barbaza, Antique.
The quake, which was tectonic in origin, had a depth of 28 kilometers. It occurred at 10:12 p.m.
The tremor was also felt in the following areas:
◾Intensity IV – Barbaza, Antique
◾Intensity III – Belison, San Jose de Buenavista and Tobias Fornier in Antique, and Nabas in Aklan
◾Intensity II – Banga and Malay, Aklan ang Bago City Negros Occidental.
◾Intensity I – Lezo, Aklan.
Instrumental intensities:
◾Intensity III – Culasi, San Jose de Buenavista, and Sebaste, Antique, and Malay and Manilao, Aklan.
◾Intensity II – Bago City in Negros Occidental
◾Intensity III- La Carlota City Negros Occidental
PHIVOLCS initially said it was a 4.8-magnitude quake but it was dowgraded to 4.7.
