Christmas is truly in the air as Festive Walk Iloilo switched on the lights of its giant Christmas tree, ushering in the Yuletide season.

The 20-foot Christmas tree is adorned with woven and native decorations handcrafted by weavers from Barangay Plandico in the town of Concepcion, Iloilo.

The lighting ceremony was part of the official launch of Festive Walk Iloilo’s Pagtililingub Christmas celebration this year.

The event was attended by Acting Iloilo City Mayor  Jeffrey Ganzon and Department of Tourism (DOT-6) regional director Crisanta Marlene Rodriguez.

Also present were Megaworld Lifestyle Malls cluster general manager Mikee Vivo and Festive Walk Iloilo general manager Karmela Jesena.

Aside from the Christmas tree lighting, the mall in Mandurriao district also delighted its shoppers with performances by the Irong Irong Dance Company and a group representing the Tultugan Festival of Maasin, Iloilo.

“Our goal this holiday season is not only to celebrate the joy and spirit of Christmas but also to honor the rich, unique culture of Iloilo,” said Jesena.

“At Megaworld Lifestyle Malls, we are dedicated to creating meaningful, memorable experiences that resonate deeply with our community,” she added.

The event culminated with a fireworks display, which lasted for almost five minutes.

Throughout the Christmas season, Festive Walk Iloilo remains committed to supporting the local industry, showcasing the craftsmanship and talents of Ilonggos through various events.

Among the highlights is Festive Fabrics, an exhibit featuring creations by Iloilo designers Jackie Penalosa and Jeff Ticao as well as an interactive weaving display from Balai Ilonggo.

The Handmade Wonders exhibit, which features sustainable, handcrafted products from the Mat Weavers of Concepcion, is set from November 15 until 30.

Iloilo’s Treasures Fair invites guests to discover and shop for a variety of local food and artisan products, celebrating the rich cultural heritage of the region.

The Weaving Kindness project gives free products to guests who can shop for delightful bakery products and handcrafted items from the Weavers Association.

With these initiatives, Festive Walk Iloilo is not just celebrating the holidays, but it is also empowering local artisans and creating a space for the community to come together.Steffany Suecong, WVSU-COC intern/IMT
