Iloilo City Representative Julienne “Jamjam” Baronda on Friday, Sept. 27, revealed that “no final decision” was made during a meeting with House Speaker Martin Romualdez and Raisa Treñas-Chu.
In a statement, Baronda’s camp said the congresswoman “still needs to consult with her campaign team when she comes home from Manila.”
The “exploratory” meeting on Tuesday afternoon, Sept. 24, was requested by Congressman Jojo Ang of the Uswag Ilonggo Party-list, who “sought to bring both parties together for a possible reconciliation.”
“We were surprised by the information leak. In good faith, we kept the details of the meeting confidential,” Baronda’s camp said.
Earlier, Treñas-Chu, daughter and executive assistant of City Mayor Jerry Treñas, confirmed the meeting but did not give details about it.
Chu encouraged members of the media “to ask [Romualdez] directly what transpired and who initiated [the] meeting.”
“I am not one to break the confidentiality of that meeting. But do ask him,” she said.
Last March, the mayor announced that he and Baronda, who are both serving their second term in office, have decided to end their political alliance after two successful elections together.
The local chief executive said his daughter will be his official candidate for the congressional post.
Baronda, on the other hand, has yet to share her plans for next year’s elections.IMT
