Senator Jinggoy Estrada believes it is “essential” to invite former President Rodrigo “Rody” Duterte in the planned drug war probe by the Senate Committee on Public Order and Dangerous.

“The testimony of the former president on the issue is crucial in uncovering the truth and ensuring that justice is served for all affected parties,” said Estrada.

Earlier, Senator Ronald dela Rosa said that he will open a probe into the bloody war of drugs during the Duterte administration, noting that Duterte would rather testify before the Senate than the House of Representatives.

The Lower House has a standing invitation for the former president to attend its hearings into alleged extrajudicial killings and the illegal drug trade in the country.

“Mahalaga na mabigyan ng boses ang lahat lalo na kung ang layunin ng imbestigasyon ay linawin ang mga hakbang na ginawa ng nakaraang administrasyon,” the senator from San Juan said.

The government estimated that more than 6,200 drug suspects have died since Duterte served office in 2016.IMT
