A total of P7,456,937 worth of agricultural products and livestock were damaged by Typhoon Jolina, according to the Department of Agriculture (DA-6).
Based on DA’s damage report, heavy rains and strong winds caused by the typhoon affected around 398 hectares of rice crops in the region.
The province of Negros Occidental was the most affected in terms of damage to rice crops at P3.659 million (260 hectares), followed by Aklan at P3.130 million (98 hectares), and Iloilo at P667,457 (39 hectares).
Jolina affected 18 barangays and 758 families composed of 1,874 individuals, Regional Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council’s (RDRRMC) situational report showed.
Meanwhile, Capiz farmers received modern agricultural equipment from the Philippine Center for Postharvest Development and Mechanization under its Agricultural Machineries and Post Harvest Facilities program.
The modern equipment, which included Four-Wheel Drive Tractor, Hand Tractor, Precision Seeder, Walk Behind Transplanter, Riding Type Transplanter, Reaper, Combined Harvester, Mini-Thresher, Impeller Rice Mill, Mechanical Dryer, Recirculating Dryer, and Shredder, is a big help for the agriculture sector in Capiz to boost its production.
The donation came after the Sangguniang Panlalawigan passed Resolution No. 644, series of 2021 authored by Board Member Eleuper M. Martinez authorizing the Capiz Provincial Government and PhilMech to enter into a memorandum of agreement (MOA) for the said donation.IMT
