President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has designated Joseph Francisco Ortega as the new Chairperson of the National Youth Commission (NYC).

“Mr. Ortega’s appointment is part of the administration’s commitment to empowering the Filipino youth and ensuring that their voices are represented at the highest levels of government,” the Presidential Communications Office (PCO) said.

Citing his “distinguished background” in tourism and youth advocacy, the PCO believes that Ortega is “well-positioned to lead the NYC in its mission to develop and implement policies that will further the welfare and development of young Filipinos across the country.”

Ortega, who served as DOT-1 regional director prior to his appointment, replaced Duterte Youth party-list founder Ronald Cardema, a known ally of former President Rodrigo Duterte.

The PCO said Marcos Jr. also appointed Karl Josef Legazpi, a Director at the House of Representatives, as the second Commissioner-at-Large of the NYC.IMT
