Footballers from Kaya Futbol Club – Iloilo made an emphatic debut in the 2020 Philippines Football League (PFL) as they beat Maharlika-Manila FC, 1-0 at the PFF National Training Center in Cavite.

Negrense Jayson Panhay saved the day after a first half goal which claimed the victory for the Ilonggos.

The pride of San Carlos City, Negros Occidental broke the scoreless first half after converting a goal at the 30th minute mark.

Before the winning goal, Kaya tried several goal attempts but it went out of the net. A header try from Simone Rota at the fifth minute and left footed volley from Marwin Angeles a minute later were spoiled by Maharlika-Manila.

Maharlika-Manila also attempted series of shots in the opening half with the closest courtesy of MJ Libre, but his close-range attempt just kissed the crossbar.

Kaya-Iloilo wanted to score with tries from Eric Giganto, Arnel Amita, Kenshiro Daniels, and Ilonggo Jovin Bedic, but Maharlika-Manila’s keeper was active on the defensive end.

With the win, Kaya-Iloilo are tied with defending champions United City Football Club on top of the table with three-points each while Maharlika-Manila joined Azkals Developmental Team at the cellar.

Kaya-Iloilo will aim for its second straight win against Azkals Developmental Team at 8 p.m. on October 31.IMT
