A total of 79 public school classrooms in Western Visayas were damaged by typhoon Kristine, data from the Department of Education (DepEd-6) showed.
Of the number, 59 sustained minor damage, five had major damage, and 15 were completely destroyed.
Forty-two of the classrooms with minor damage were from Negros Occidental, 14 from Iloilo, and 13 from Roxas City, Capiz.
Those classrooms with major damage were from Negros Occidental (4) and Iloilo (1).
The 15 totally destroyed classrooms were from Iloilo and Negros Occidental.
DepEd-6 spokesperson Hernani Escullar, Jr. said the figures were based on reports submitted by schools division offices (SDOs) in the region.
Once validated by the Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Division of DepEd-6, the region’s infrastructure damage report will be submitted to the Central Office in Manila.IMT
