The construction of a road connecting the towns of Lambunao, Iloilo and Valderrama, Antique is expected to be completed by 2026.
The project, which has a total budget of P 2.4 to 2.8 billion, involves the construction of a 20-meter wide, 41-kilometer stretch road with bridges and slope protection.
The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH-6), the implementing agency, said the road opening along Bugasong-Valderrama Road has a total length of 28 kilometers while the Lambunao-Inca Road in Iloilo is a 13-kilometer stretch.
The construction of the Panay East-West Road started in 2017 and was supposed to be done in 2020.
Once completed, the road will reduce travel time between the central part of Iloilo and the northern part of Antique.
It will also cut travel time from Antique to Capiz and from Iloilo to Malay in Aklan, home to the world-famous Boracay Island.IMT
