Three persons died while nine others were injured after lightning struck in Sitio Giragid, Barangay Magdalo, Banate, Iloilo on Monday afternoon, May 8.
Among the fatalities was a 14-year-old pregnant girl identified as Britney Labos. The two others were Mila Soberano, 38 and Rosalie Soberano, 48.
The injuries were Felomino Sadiang-ibon, 77; Janelyn Igona, 38; Carlo Soberano, 11; Jumar Soberano, 42; Larry Soberano, 30; Sharime Soberano, 20; IJ Soberano, 20; Aime Soberano, 14; and Ivan Soberano, 44.
According to Police Lieutenant Dandy Ilalto of the Banate police station, the victims – all residents of the town – took shelter in a shanty amid a downpour.
The shanty in the middle of a rice field was hit by the lightning, he said.
The injured victims are currently being treated at Governor Niel D. Tupas Sr. District Hospital in Barotac Viejo.IMT
