The Liga ng mga Barangay (LNB) of Sara, Iloilo is requesting for the deployment of additional police personnel in the town to ensure the conduct of “truthful and honest” Barangay and SK Elections (BSKE) on Oct. 30.
LNB made the request to Police Regional Office (PRO-6) regional director Police Brigadier General Sidney N. Villaflor through a resolution.
The resolution, penned by LNB president Neptali C. Salcedo, stemmed from incumbent Sara Mayor Jon Aying’s undated order, recalling all handheld radios given to all 42 barangays in the town.
“Such Order for Recall may only serve the political interests of the few but is surely detrimental to the interest of the general welfare specifically in promoting a free, honest and orderly Barangay and SK Elections 2023,” Liga Resolution No. 003-2023 read.
“[It] raised serious concerns for maintenance of peace and prompt coordination to authorities especially during emergency situations, noting that a substantial number of barangays are distant and isolated with no stable means of communication.”
LNB said granting their request would not only warrant truthful and honest elections but would also restore the trust and confidence of the Saranhons to the PNP.
The resolution mentioned the 2019 Midterm Elections and the 2022 Presidential Elections, which according to LNB were tainted with several violations that affected that credibility of the polls.IMT
