President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has moved the observance of the Ninoy Aquino Day from August 21 to August 23 to promote domestic tourism.
“In order to provide for a longer weekend thereby promoting domestic tourism, the celebration of Ninoy Aquino Day may be moved from 21 August 2024 (Wednesday) to 23 August 2024 (Friday), provided that the historical significance of Ninoy Aquino Day is maintained,” Marcos Jr. stated in Proclamation No. 665 signed on August 15, 2024.
The President directed the Department of Labor and Employment to issue the appropriate circular to implement the proclamation for the private sector.
In 2004, then President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo signed Republic Act No. 9256, declaring August 21 of every year as Ninoy Aquino Day to commemorate the death anniversary of former senator Benigno S. Aquino Jr.
The EDSA Commission, established under Executive Order No. 82, is tasked with the planning and implementation of ceremonies to commemorate Ninoy Aquino Day.IMT
