The Land Transportation Office in Western Visayas (LTO-6) has deployed four alcohol breath analyzers (ABA) to enhance the enforcement of Republic Act No. 10586, also known as the Anti-Drunk and Drugged Driving Act of 2013.

LTO-6 Regional Director Gaudioso Geduspan II said the analyzers would help deter drunk driving and measure drivers’ alcohol levels during accidents, particularly during the upcoming Dinagyang Festival.

Nineteen other ABA units were sent to the central office for calibration.

The LTO plans to collaborate with Iloilo City’s operation center, while its Law Enforcement Service will remain on standby to respond to road incidents.

Geduspan underscored their focus on law enforcement to minimize accidents during the festivities.

Violators of RA 10586 face penalties ranging from P20,000 to P500,000 and imprisonment, depending on the severity of the offense.

Non-professional drivers may have their licenses suspended or revoked, while professional drivers face immediate revocation.

Drivers are considered under the influence if their blood alcohol content exceeds .05 percent for private vehicles or any detectable amount for trucks, buses, and public transport.

Geduspan said nationwide drunk driving-related fatalities have reached 12,000 annually.Perla Lena/PNA
