Majority or 75 percent of the recorded local cases of COVID-19 in Iloilo City’s barangays were caused by workplace transmission, according to Liga ng mga Barangay (LnB) spokesperson Roberto Niño Jr.
In an interview on IMT Conversations, Niño said the virus further spread when workers go home from their workplaces.
“From workplace, mapuli, ma-infect sa ila members kag dira na dayun matransmit ang COVID-19 sa ila household,” he explained.
Latest data from the Department of Health (DOH-6) showed that Jaro district recorded the highest clustering of cases at 348, followed by Mandurriao with 167; Molo, 165; Arevalo, 87; City Proper, 86; and La Paz, 70.
To curb transmission of the disease, Niño said several measures have already been put in place in coordination with the City Health Office and the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (MDRRMO).
“Ang mga barangay naka adjust na sa amo ni nga situation since more than a year na kita nga gaaway sa amo ni nga pandemic,” he said.
“Sa mga zero cases nga barangays, ang pinakanami nga innovation nila is mahapos sa ila magdisseminate information kag ang ila public address system is malab-ot gid ang tanan nga constituents nila,” said Niño who also serves as punong barangay of Calumpang, Molo.
The city, which is currently under modified enhanced community quarantine (MECQ), has 10,905 cumulative COVID-19 infections, of which 10, 446 are considered local cases.IMT
