A 25-year-old man in Barangay PHCC Block 22, Mandurriao district, Iloilo City was nabbed for using the Philippine flag to cover a vehicle.
Police Lieutenant Joebert Amado of Mandurriao Police Station said the man, whose name was withheld, will undergo an inquest proceeding.
The arrested violator may face imprisonment for up to 12 years and pay a maximum fine of P20 thousand.
To use the Philippine Flag as “covering for ceilings, walls, statues or other objects” is prohibited under Republic Act 8491.
Amado said the man claimed that he was completely unaware that what he did was prohibited.
He got the flag inside the car of his employer who told him to cover the vehicle because it was too hot.IMT
