A fire that hit a residential area in Barangay Airport, Mandurriao, Iloilo City on Friday, March 11, caused damage estimated at P1.4 million, according to the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP).
A total of 66 houses were affected by the fire that lasted for more than an hour from 5:29 p.m. to 6:43 p.m.
Majority or 57 of the houses were totally burned and nine were partially damaged.
Based on the BFP-Iloilo City’s initial investigation, the blaze originated from the second floor of Lida Yudelmo’s house and quickly spread to other houses, which were mostly made of light materials.
The cause of fire is still under investigation.
The number of affected families reached 107. They are temporarily housed at Mandurriao Elementary School.
Aside from relief goods, the city government will also provide P10,000 and P7,000 to families whose houses were totally and partially destroyed, respectively.IMT
