The government has tripled the supply of P29-per-kilo rice in Kadiwa stores for poor and vulnerable households, the National Food Authority (NFA) announced.
In a Palace briefing, NFA Administrator Larry Lacson said Agriculture Secretary Francisco Tiu Laurel Jr. ordered the monthly purchase limit raised from 10 kilos to 30 kilos per eligible household.
To expand access, the Department of Agriculture (DA) has also opened more Kadiwa stores nationwide.
The P29 rice program, launched in 2023, is a key initiative of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. It aims to provide affordable, quality rice to up to 6.9 million vulnerable households—about 35 million Filipinos.
The initial rollout began in 10 Kadiwa stores across Metro Manila and Bulacan. The program is now being expanded to more outlets.
The rice comes from aging NFA stocks and is sold to beneficiaries such as 4Ps members, solo parents, senior citizens, persons with disabilities, and indigenous peoples.
The 4Ps (Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program) is a government assistance program providing conditional cash grants to the poorest families to support children’s health, nutrition, and education.
Meanwhile, the government has begun selling P33-per-kilo rice in Kadiwa stores located in public housing sites. This is part of efforts to ensure food security for resettled families.
National Housing Authority General Manager Joeben Tai said these Kadiwa stores started operations in April, with more set to open through May 2025.IMT
