President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. on Wednesday, Aug. 7, opposed the call for the suspension of the Public Utility Vehicle Modernization Program (PUVMP).

Around 80 percent of PUV operators have been consolidated into various transport cooperatives, Marcos Jr. said in a media interview in Pampanga.

“I disagree with them because sinasabi nila minadali. This has been postponed seven times. The modernization has been postponed for seven times and those that have been objecting or have been crying out and asking for suspension are in the minority. 80 percent have already consolidated, so papano naman if yung 20 percent ang magde-decide ‘yung buhay ng 100 percent,” according to him.

“Pakinggan natin ang majority at ang majority sinasabi ituloy natin. So that’s what we will do,” the President added.

Earlier, 22 senators filed a resolution urging the government to temporarily suspend the implementation of PUVMP.

The program initiated under the Duterte administration aims to replace traditional jeepneys that are at least 15 years old with modern e-jeepneys.IMT
