President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has directed the Department of Agriculture (DA) to ensure the swift delivery of all necessary support to farmers during this planting season to avoid any disruptions.

“There should be no significant delays to the implementation of agri-support to farmers,” Marcos Jr. told the DA during a meeting with the administration’s economic managers in Malacañang on Monday, Jan. 13.

The President instructed the Department of Budget and Management (DBM) “to be mindful of the planting season” and ensure budgetary support is aligned with the planting season

“Be mindful of the planting season. Huwag tayo maiiwanan sa planting season. That’s why you need to come up with the timely budgetary support,” he told the DBM.

The DA highlighted in its presentation that sufficient support for fertilizers, quality seeds and technologies enables farmers to achieve higher yields and maximize productivity.

It also prevents delays in distributing essential inputs, allowing timely planting and optimal harvests.

“Increased rice production supports job creation across the value chain, farm laborers, transporters, millers, and traders, stimulating rural economies,” the DA said.IMT
