Former Supreme Court (SC) Associate Justice Antonio Carpio believes the present administration is on the right track in asserting the country’s sovereign rights over the disputed West Philippine Sea (WPS).
The government is “doing the right thing so far,” Carpio said during a Kapihan sa Manila Bay forum in Manila.
He went on to say, “Well, so far, yes. I think, I am very happy, as I said, it’s music to my ears.”
The retired SC justice was a member of the Philippine delegation that won the landmark arbitral court decision in 2016 that invalidated China’s expansive claims in the disputed South China Sea.
President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has repeatedly said that he would not surrender a single inch of territory of the Philippines to any foreign power.
“The life-giving waters of the West Philippine Sea flow in the blood of every Filipino,” he said before the 21st International Institute for Strategic Studies Shangri-La Dialogue in Singapore last May.IMT
