President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. on Friday, July 26, ordered the national and local governments to “prepare for the next flood” as the La Niña phenomenon persists in the Philippines.

“This is the first typhoon sa La Niña. Mahaba pa ‘to. So, we have to prepare for that. Let’s think about preparing for that,” Marcos Jr. said during the situation briefing in Mauban, Quezon.

The Department of the Interior and Local Government reported that the town of Agdangan was hard-hit by typhoons Aghon, Carina, and the southwest monsoon.

At least 986 families or 4,324 individuals were affected by Carina, while a total of 968 families temporarily stayed with relatives or friends.

The typhoon also left the ports of Real, Infanta, Polillo, Patnanungan, Jomalig, and Burdeos inoperable.

Meanwhile, the President sought to assess significant changes in flooding patterns in the province.

“We’re trying to assess what are the significant changes because all our flood control projects are projects that are in response to the – ‘yung mga flooding noon,” he said.IMT
