President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has shrugged off Vice President Sara Duterte-Carpio’s revelation that her father, former president Rodrigo Duterte, and her two brothers, Davao City Mayor Sebastian Duterte and Davao City 1st District Rep. Paolo Duterte, would run for the Senate in next year’s elections.
“It’s a free country. They’re allowed to do what it is that they want. I really have no reaction to it,” Marcos Jr. said in a media interview in Manila Hotel on Thursday, June 27.
The President, who has been on the receiving end of criticisms from the Duterte family, said it’s “still early” to talk about elections and that a lot can happen between now and 2028.
“We really won’t know any of these things. You’re talking about 2028. Ang dami pang mangyayari between now and 2028,” he also said.
The only real suituation, according to Marcos Jr. will become clear in October, when certificates of candidacy are filed.
“Then we will see really kung tatakbo ba talaga? Sino ba talaga tatakbo? Kanino sasama? What are the parties involved? Which parties are in alliance with which? Doon lang natin makikita sa Oktubre,” the chief executive said.
Former president Duterte accused Marcos Jr. of being a drug addict during a Davao gathering last January 28, and claimed that his successor was on the government watch list for illegal drugs. At the same event, Baste asked the President to resign if he could not show love and aspiration for the country.
Last month, Duterte-Carpio announced her departure from the Marcos Cabinet as the education secretary and vice chairperson of the National Task Force to End Local Communist Armed Conflict. She did not give a reason for her resignation.IMT
