President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. praised the growing diplomatic ties between the Philippines and France, noting that these ties are built on shared values and a commitment to international law.

During a courtesy call by French Minister for Foreign Trade, International Financing, and French Nationals Abroad Laurent Saint-Martin in Malacañang, Marcos Jr. expressed gratitude for both the material and moral support France has given the Philippines.

“It is very encouraging for the Philippines to see that despite … the great distance between our two countries … the primacy of our shared values and our adherence to international law is something that is a common ground, that is very solid between France and the Philippines,” he said.

The President also thanked Saint-Martin for his visit.

Saint-Martin, in turn, thanked the President and Trade Secretary Cristina Roque for their warm welcome. He also delivered French President Emmanuel Macron’s greetings to the Philippine government and people.

The Philippines and France have had formal diplomatic relations for 78 years, since June 26, 1947.

There are over 31,000 Filipinos in France, mostly domestic workers, professionals, students, artists, and spouses of French nationals.

The two countries have signed various agreements on air services, cultural cooperation, defense, film collaboration, and development.IMT
