President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. and First Lady Liza Araneta-Marcos are set to return Monday, April 28, after attending the funeral of Pope Francis on Saturday, April 26.
Marcos Jr. described his presence at the funeral as “a gesture of deep respect— from one of the world’s most faithful nations to a Pope who touched the hearts of millions.”
He said he represented not only the Philippine government but also the “prayerful, hopeful, and grateful” Filipino people who would have wanted to personally thank the late pontiff.
The Funeral Mass at St. Peter’s Square drew global leaders and thousands of Catholic faithful, honoring a Pope known for his humility, compassion, and advocacy for the poor.
“This is a moment of shared faith, national pride, and quiet tribute from the Filipino people to a Pope who walked with the humble and gave voice to the unseen,” the Chief Executive added.
