President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos, Jr. is inclined to sign into law a bill separating Negros Occidental, including Bacolod City, and Negros Oriental from Western Visayas (Region VI) and Central Visayas (Region VII), respectively.
In a media interview on Monday, April 8, Marcos said “it makes sense” and “probably a good idea” to put the two Negros provinces as well as Siquijor under one region.
“It is very hard to bring government services to the people and that’s the entire reason behind the push for making a single region para may regional office na sarili. I think I will sign it,” he told reporters.
Marcos was in Bacolod City on Monday to lead the ceremonial energization of the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines’ Cebu-Negros-Panay 230-kV Backbone Project.
The ratified version of the Negros Island Region (NIR) bill is expected to be transmitted to the Office of President this month.IMT
