The town of Miagao recorded the highest number of firecracker-related injuries in the province of Iloilo, data from the Provincial Health Office (PHO) showed.

The province logged a total of 31 injuries caused by firecrackers, particularly boga (improvised cannon), from December 21, 2024 to January 1, 2025.

Of the number, Miagao accounted for 6 injuries, followed by Passi City with 4 injuries; Ajuy, Dumangas and Oton with 3 each; and Santa Barbara with 2.

The towns of Anilao, Banate, Barotac Nuevo, Barotac Viejo, Cabatuan, Concepcion, Lambunao, San Enrique, San Joaquin and Sara registered one injury each.

According to PHO, 19 of the victims sustained eye injuries while 12 suffered blast and burn injuries that required no amputation.

Most of those injured were aged 10 and below.

The other causes of firecracker injuries were bamboo cannon, triangulo, camara, and piccolo.

In Iloilo City, the number of firecracker-related injuries stood at 7, of which 4 were caused by boga, 1 by triangulo, 1 by camara and 1 by a homemade firecracker.IMT
