Miagao Mayor Macario Napulan is puzzled by how their 94-year-old male resident was infected with the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19).
The elderly man is the second patient who tested positive for the dreaded disease in the town and the 12th patient in the whole Iloilo province.
Based on the latest bulletin issued by the Department of Health (DOH-6), the patient had no history of travel and exposure to a known COVID-19 patient.
Napulan said the patient, who became the oldest COVID-19 patient in the Western Visayas region, is a war veteran.
The patient with existing pneumonia is currently confined at the Western Visayas Medical Center in Iloilo City.
Napulan said the patient’s immediate family members are set to undergo COVID-19 testing today, April 6, to find out who among them is the carrier of the virus.
The first COVID-19 patient in Miagao is a 22-year-old female. She had a travel history to Manila.
Yesterday, April 5, the DOH-6 reported four new positive cases, bringing the total number of cases in the region to 34.
Iloilo province still has the most number of COVID-19 cases with 12, followed by Bacolod City, 7; Aklan, 6; Capiz, 4; Iloilo City 4; and Negros Occidental, 1. Antique and Guimaras have zero cases of the disease.IMT
