The Iloilo City Government signed a memorandum of agreement with Department of Human Settlement and Urban Development (DHSUD) and Home Development Mutual Fund or Pag-IBIG for the implementation of the housing development program.

The construction of 10,000 housing units for qualified residents of the city will be implemented under DHSUD’s flagship program Pambansang Pabahay Para sa Pilipino: Zero ISF Program for 2028.

The initial 1,260 units will be built in Uswag Residential Complex, a relocation site in Barangay San Isidro, Jaro district.

“After 10 years, we want to see no more informal settlers in the city rather, Ilonggo families will have safe and decent homes to improve their quality of life,” said Mayor Jerry Treñas.

He is hopeful that with the help of DSHUD, the target to address the city’s 15,000 housing backlog will be fast-tracked and shortened to six years or within the term of President Bongbong Marcos.

Meanwhile, Councilor Johnny Young said Iloilo City is one of the first cities in the country to benefit from the government’s housing program.

“We want to fast-track everything that is why we are always on the ground. We are visiting Iloilo a lot and other areas,” he added.

According to Treñas, the signed MOA will be submitted to the Sangguniang Panlungsod (SP) for confirmation.

Once confirmed, the city government will wait for unsolicited proposals from interested contractors for the project. IMT
