Nearly 300 houses were razed by fire in the villages of San Juan and West Habog-Habog Molo district, Iloilo City early Saturday morning, Jan. 28.
Based on data from the City Social Welfare and Development Office (CSWDO), the fire damaged 292 houses, of which 207 are in West Habog-Habog and 90 in San Juan.
In West Habog-Habog, 204 houses were totally burned and three were partially burned, affecting 207 families or 811 individuals.
In San Juan, 72 houses were totally burned and 13 were partially burned, affecting 91 families or 314 individuals.
No one was killed in the fire that started at around 4:37 a.m. and was put out at 6:16 a.m.
The Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) is still conducting investigation to establish the cause of the fire and the cost of property damage.
Affected families are temporarily sheltered at Baluarte Elementary School, San Juan Barangay Hall, Uswag Gym, and San Juan Elementary School.
Mayor Jerry Treñas immediately instructed the City Health Office (CHO) “to send doctors and nurses to the evacuatio centers.”
“Let us ensure there is sufficient clean water supply and the victims are safe. I do not want an increase in the cases of acutegastroenteritis in the evacuation centers,” he said.IMT
