Face-to-face classes for Monday, Sept. 16, have been suspended in Iloilo City and several towns in Iloilo province due to inclement weather caused by the southwest monsoon or habagat.
Mayor Jerry P. Treñas suspended classes from pre-school to senior high school in public and private institutions in the city.
The suspension was recommended by Iloilo City Emergency Operations Center “to ensure the safety and general welfare of the children and the general public.”
“Suspension of classes at the college level is hereby left to the discretion of their respective school administrators,” Treñas said in a statement on Sunday, Sept. 15.
The Iloilo Science and Technology University (ISAT-U), West Visayas State University (WVSU) Main Campus, St. Paul University Iloilo and Pius XII College Iloilo suspended their Monday classes.
In the province, 15 towns, as of 11 p.m., have declared to suspended classes. These are Oton, Tigbauan, Guimbal Tubungan, Miagao, Igbaras, San Joaquin, Pavia, Zarraga, Alimodian, Leon, Maasin, Anilao, Barotac Nuevo, and Dumangas.
The Iloilo State University of Fisheries Science and Technology (ISUFST) also decided to suspend classes in all its campuses in the province.IMT
