Iloilo City is adopting a new tagline and logo to promote a sense of pride, love, and appreciation for the city.
“My Heart Beats in Iloilo” replaces the former tagline “Bringing Iloilo City to the Next Level” and will be launched on Aug. 16 ahead of the 86th Charter Day anniversary on Aug. 25.
“Why does my heart beat in Iloilo? You know when you are in Iloilo, there is a certain sense of pride of being an Ilonggo that you do not see in any other place. We are proud of our food, places, heritage, and Ilonggos,” Mayor Jerry Treñas in an interview on Wednesday, Aug. 9.
The campaign also aims to engage the community, highlight its unique heritage and culture, and create a strong emotional connection with its residents. It aims to foster a deeper sense of belonging and unity among its people.
Treñas said the city is even doing more with its previous tagline, but the new branding will gather Ilonggos together.
The heart-shaped logo gets inspiration from its City of Love moniker.
The image of the Dinagyang Warrior is the most prominent symbol that can be found inside the heart, together with other designs, including the paraw (sailboat), river, open spaces like parks, and awards of the city.
“We are not saying that this should be the only logo. Anyone can come up with their own logo,” the mayor added.
The city government will also introduce three events that the public can join, including a heritage tour, a Tiktok dance challenge, and a photo contest to popularize the branding.
A guided heritage tour of historical sites, iconic landmarks, and cultural centers will allow participants to connect with the past and understand their significance in shaping the identity of the city.
The Tiktok dance challenge targets a younger audience, videos of which they will share as they also become active advocates for their city.
The photo contest, on the other hand, will be a platform for residents and visitors to share their perspectives of the city through pictures.
The mechanics for the dance challenge and the photo contest will be presented after the launch.Perla Lena/PNA
